Born and raised in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, New York, Arthur grew up surrounded by music. With family members involved in various aspects of the art and years spent singing in school and church choirs, his passion for performing was nurtured from an early age. While music had always been his calling, it wasn’t until 2017 that he stepped into the recording booth and began transforming lifelong dreams into reality.
Since then, Arthur has spent years sharpening his craft, developing a signature sound that seamlessly blends melodic vocals with thoughtful rap verses. Drawing from real-life experiences, his music reflects love, growth, heartbreak, resilience, and the lessons that come with navigating life. We caught up with Arthur to talk about his musical journey, creative process, and what’s fueling the next chapter of his career.
V-Henny: Music has been part of your life since childhood, from singing in church and school choirs to recording your own music. At what moment did you realize music was more than just a passion—it was your purpose?
Was there someone who inspired you to finally take that leap into the studio in 2017?
Arthur: Music has always been apart of my life & it really turned into a passion when I was in about 12 years old. One of my classmates asked me what I wanted to be when I grow up and that was the first time I ever said “I want to be a singer”. Nobody inspired me to get in the studio but I do have my cousin and brother to thank for that. My cousin who is a rapper needed a singer on one of his songs, he contacted my older brother and asked him if I still sing (at the time it was my freshman year in college) my brother told him yes and the rest is history.
V-Henny: Growing up in Flatbush, Brooklyn, undoubtedly exposed you to a variety of musical influences and cultures. How has your hometown shaped your sound and your storytelling?
What lessons from Brooklyn do you carry with you every time you create?
Arthur: Ironically growing up in Flatbush, Brooklyn has had minimal impact on my music career so far. In some of my early music you hear me talk about things I’ve witnessed or had to go through, there’s always something going on in the hood so when it comes to storytelling it’s more more like pick a situation if you wanna talk about that. Though there are a variety of cultures in my neighborhood I set myself apart by not falling into any of those categories I’m surrounded by and I’m doing my own thing. And as far as the lessons I’ve learned and I keep with me is always keep your head on a swivel and always try to improve.
V-Henny: One of the things that makes your music stand out is your ability to sing and rap effortlessly. Do you naturally hear both styles when writing a song, or does one usually come before the other?
How do you decide which approach best serves the story you’re telling?
Arthur: I’m naturally a singer so that’s usually the first thing I think about, but it really depends on the beat and my mood at the moment. It all comes down to the beat and how my voice carries. Some beats are specifically for rapping and some are for singing and some you can do both. I have a song called “Flex” and originally I’m rapping on the beat but my engineer told me to sing it and that was the best thing to happen to the song. It’s important to consider other opinions as well it cool end up being a masterpiece.
V-Henny: Your latest album, Can I Still Love?, explores emotion and vulnerability. What inspired this project, and what do you hope listeners take away after hearing it from beginning to end?
Was there one song on the album that was especially difficult to write?
Arthur: The inspiration for my last album “Can I Still Love ?” Came from years of trying to find love, coming close but ultimately never finding the real thing which made me feel a way so I just stopped looking altogether and decided to spend some time working on myself. The hardest song for me to write on that album was “Care4U” because I saying I still care for that person even though they hurt me. The song start off with “I still care for you, don’t care about the things you do. If you ever need a shoulder to cry on, do t hesitate to come right through” While I mean all of that it come from a place of uncertainty because I’m always gonna car and try to help but I can’t think past the fact of we should be more than what we are and the relationship diminished down to associates.
V-Henny: Your music often draws from personal life experiences. Has creating music helped you better understand yourself?
Do you ever find healing through the songs you write?
Arthur: Creating music especially about what I go through in my life has definitely made me learn about myself and has made me a better person. Music is therapeutic and it could be a rollercoaster of emotions but I feel like when you finally hear the finished product I think it should be celebrated. Putting your real feelings out there for the world to hear isn’t easy but when a song can pull out emotions from others then you know you did your job and it heals apart of you because you might’ve help someone else.
V-Henny: You’ve been performing at venues consistently this year. How has being on stage influenced your confidence and growth as an artist?
Is there a performance that stands out as a defining moment in your journey so far?
Arthur: I’ve been performing a lot and I’m very confident in my skills. At first I would care about the crowd size or if people were actually paying attention but the confidence starts within yourself so at this point I just want to give people a performance they will never forget. I have a lot of great performance moments so it’s hard to just pick one so besides my SOB’s performance I had a performance May 1st this year and a lot of people came out to see me & at the time it was the most ever. I turned the crowd up had them singing my song, was I’m interacting with the crown and I’ve had people who’ve seen me perform 50+ times telling me “I’ve never seen you perform like that before”. I even gain some new fans as well as new collaborations. The only thing I could say is I love to put on a show.
V-Henny: Every artist faces challenges while building an independent career. What’s been the biggest obstacle you’ve had to overcome, and what has kept you motivated through it all?
What advice would you give someone who’s just beginning their own musical journey?
Arthur: The biggest obstacle I’ve had to overcome so far is making people care. You’re not gonna the same reaction everywhere you go, no crowd is the same. At times I’d perform in places and except the that came with me or came to see me nobody else would tell me anything not “I like your song” or “your performance went well” that can be discouraging but confidence is your biggest strength because if people see you have the confidence in yourself it doesn’t matter who’s rocking with you or not because eventually the right people will see as long as you keep it up. I’m very big on confidence so for any upcoming artist I would say just have the confidence in you that you can accomplish your goals, stay humble & be thankful.
V-Henny: When you’re creating new music, what’s your process like?
Do you start with a melody, lyrics, a beat, or does inspiration hit differently every time?
Arthur: When it comes to my process of creating new music majority of the time it all starts with the beat. I listen to beats all the time and I love testing out what I can write to this beat, but I know when I got one when a hook automatically comes in my head and it’s usually the melody but the lyrics are only a few seconds behind. That’s how it happens most of the time but I can say or hear a phrase and I start writing it down or I might say a bar to myself and I write that down and then it becomes a whole song and I got to find a beat to match that. It can be difficult to find the right melody that you already have in your head & sometimes I may have to switch up the flow of the song but that’s all apart of the magic making & I love it all.
V-Henny: Outside of music, what’s something fans would be surprised to learn about Arthur?
Whether it’s a hidden talent, favorite hobby, or something you enjoy when you’re not in the studio, we’d love to know.
Arthur: Outside of music I’m a fun person. I’m one of the main camera operators for my church, I love working out, doing outside activities whether playing sports or bike riding, I’m a HUGE wrestling fan so I might go to a show or two when they come to the city, I love playing video games I enjoy spending time with family and friends, l love to eat and sip on margaritas recently with the content I put out I enjoy acting, ultimately I just love having a good time.
V-Henny: Looking ahead, what does success look like for Arthur?
Beyond streams and recognition, what kind of legacy do you hope your music leaves for future generations?
Arthur: Besides streams and recognition success to me is knowing that the music I put out and when people see me they get inspired to be better or take their craft seriously. I want people to hear my music and feel like it’s okay to be vulnerable you don’t have to be tough all the time, especially for the men out there we all have feelings and yeah, sometimes they do get hurt & it’s okay to be sad sometimes but the most important thing is to not let it consume you. There is always light at the end of the tunnel. Art is an expression of life & when people see me or hear my music I want them to know it’s okay to be yourself and authenticity always wins.
